Scooter Safety - The Gear

A rugged, high quality scooter is the first step. Get one that is welded, not riveted - get one from us!

The rest of the gear is just as important.  Your life may depend on it!  Read the labels - make sure they are certified safety devices.

Elbow and wrist guards are critical for avoiding road rash, sprains and breaks.

A certified and properly fitted helmet will save your life. Go to the local bike store and get them to fit the helmet and the straps.

Knee pads are much cheaper than surgery!  Note how these and the other pads are armored and all are certified safety devices.

Scooter Safety - Driving

If your child is getting his or her first scooter spend some time with them regarding road rules.  If your town has a safety village or any other safety training get them enrolled.  Remember even if your 5-year old is only riding on the sidewalks, cars cross the sidewalks all the time getting in and out of driveways.

The BIG safety problem that you and your children must be aware of is that DRIVERS ARE NOT LOOKING FOR AND THEREFORE DO NO "SEE" SCOOTER RIDERS. So, the key is to assume the driver is not aware of you even if the driver appears to be looking at you.

Electric scooters are vehicles.  They are not appropriate for children and should be ridden with the same rules that apply to motorcycles.  get a safety booklet from the local Department of Motor Vehicles.  Read it and obey the rules of the road.
